Bound To Break Me

SO! After however many years, I'm gonna get this blog shit happenin again. Record some covers and post them.

But here's a rough mix of one of my own. The least adventurous of the new batch but a good 'un nonetheless.

Cracked And Faded Pride

A friend of mine, Bailey, reminded me the other day of a song we recorded a couple of years ago for the Pictures album that I completely forgot about. We decided to leave it off the record for fear of it being particularly singled out for being overtly "retro", a tag that seems to have followed us around for 8 years for some reason! This was loads of fun to record, Luke on bass and me playing drums live together and adding keys guitars and vocals whenever and wherever we felt like.

Better Let Go (Minus The Bluster!)

a more understated acoustic guitar version of a song you might not have heard before. I still really do like this song. what you see above was my original cover idea for kicking indifference, tele's, 4001's, trams, pugs, poodles, lions, frogs on toast, boer war soldiers, tape machines, mellotrons, som tums and dandenong hills! and yep that's a heart on a sleeve....

I'm In Love With No Car

a new tune, i guess it's a non-driver's retort to roger taylor's declaration of his love of the automobile...summat a bit improvised, stupid and boneheaded but so much fun! recorded at home with my brother-in-law playing drums. got a mate of mine to sing the chorus with me. (though i'm not supposed to say who it is, you may well be able to guess anyway once he opens his mouth) ... will be part of a new lp i'm doing with joel this year. if anyone wants to hear more, I'l post more.

Isolation (New Mix)

This has been floating around for a while, and it's available on the internet in different form as a bonus track for the Pictures last record. Luke and I recorded it in Ferntree Gully for a laff while doing demos around Feb '07. I fucking love the Boosh and I've wanted to do this ever since I saw the "Milky Joe" episode. This here is a new mix, I've just today fixed a couple things that was buggin me and I've upped the chaos factor slightly. In case you've lived under a rock for the last 4 years, here is the Howard Moon original...

McKean St. Demos, 2005

Thought I'd clear the closet a little before I start lookin forward...here are some tunes I recorded in my bedroom early in 2005, two of which ended up 4 long years later on the 2nd Pictures LP "Kicking Indifference" (oh the irony!). The other one, Get It Back Again, I hope to do something with sometime, was my first foray into lyrical optimism after a particularly fucked 2004! This version of Maisie I still reckon is way better than what we ended up with on the finished record.

Recorded at McKean St, Fitzroy North while I was living with Chris, Mikey and Gus of the Vandas group of singers and our friend Amanda, on an old beat up Amstrad computer. No Bon Iver style eating of any deer I caught myself though...
